What Is Natural Environment Teaching (NET) and Why Is It So Effective?

NET is a method of ABA that teaches skills where they naturally occur — in the kitchen, playground, or grocery store — rather than at a table. It turns real-life situations into learning opportunities.

How It Works

In NET, therapists follow the child’s lead and embed learning into everyday moments. If a child reaches for a toy, they may be prompted to say the word first. If they’re getting ready for snack, they may be taught to request more or use a spoon independently.
